Rico Maggi

Rico Maggi, Professor at Faculty of Economics, IRE director and O-Pol Manager

Rico Maggi was dean of the Faculty of Economics and is Professor of USI. He teaches microeconomics, international economics and tourism economics in the Faculty of Economics, and urban economics in the Academy of Architecture. Rico Maggi is director of the Institute for Economic Research (IRE) where he deals with issues on transport, urban and regional development, mobility and tourism.

Federica Rossi

Federica Rossi, Ph.D student

Federica Rossi is PhD student at the Institute of Economic Research (IRE), Università della Svizzera italiana. She currently works as Project Manager of the Observatory of Economic Policy (O-Pol). She obtained a Master degree in International Economics and Institutions in November 2012 (Milano Bicocca University) and a Bachelor Degree in Economics in September 2010 (Milano Bicocca University). Her research interests include accessibility, regional economics, firms' relocation and discrete choice methods.

Paolo Malfitano

Paolo Malfitano, Ph.D student

Paolo Malfitano holds a bachelor degree in statistics and computer science from the University of Palermo and a master’s degree in statistics and economics from the University of Bologna. Paolo started working as a PhD student at Institute for Economic Research (IRE) in January 2014; he works for Observatory of Economic Policy (O-POL). He provides constant monitoring of the current economic conditions and a scientific evaluation of the Canton of Ticino economic competitiveness.

Davide Arioldi

Davide Arioldi, Ph.D student

Davide Arioldi is Ph.D student at the Institute of Economic Research (IRE), Università della Svizzera italiana. He worked as a quantitative analyst in an asset management company developing model for asset allocation and as an analyst in a chartered accounting firms dealing with company assessments for M&A and extraordinary finance, real estate assessments, brand and other intangible assessments. He is interested in evaluating the role of the financial sector in regional growth and regional inflation.

Daniele Mantegazzi, Ph.D student

Daniele Mantegazzi is Ph.D student and researcher and works as assistant at the Institute for Economic Research (IRE). He started his research activity in January 2013 and he is a collaborator at the Observatory of Economic Policy (O-POL), analyzing data related to the economy of Canton Ticino and evaluating its economic policies. In January 2015 he successfully concluded the Swiss Program for Beginning Doctoral Students in Economics offered by the Study Center Gerzensee. In July 2014 he won the Swiss National Science Foundation grant Doc.CH for the project "Solving the ecological fallacy problem in the analysis of agglomeration economies: a spatial hierarchical approach". His current academic work concerns the analysis of agglomeration economies and the performance of firms and regions, with a particular interest on heterogeneity issues and spatial spillovers.
